 WhoAmI?

Dave's Face

My name is Dave Kristula. I'm a 25-year-old college graduate and serial entrepreneur. In 1996 (at age 14) I started a web site (davesite.com) that eventually grew to serve more than 1,000,000 (1 miiilllion) people every year. From 1997-1998 I fought Hodgkin's Disease, a lymphoma, and wrote a book about it--The Crumpled Note: A Teenager's Battle with Cancer. Don't worry, I am doing fine now!

From June to August 2003, I co-developed one of the first arcade visualization games for cancer patients, available to play for free at www.cancergame.org.

I have completed my second book, "Please Define Crazy: Or How I Chose "Insanity" Over Incompetence" in February. It will be published on May 15, 2007.

Read my blog.

 WhatDoILike?

I like a lot of things. I like pasta, pizza, and tacos a lot. (If you would like to help supply me with pizza or tacos, please click here!) I drink a lot of water and green tea, but I also drink a Mountain Dew on occasion. I like weekends and holidays. I like people that are interesting. I like rainy days as long as it's safe to drive in and not flooding. Same goes for snow, as long as it's not dangerous.

I enjoy long walks on the... never mind.

 WhatDon'tILike?

I don't like most TV shows, except the Simpsons and VH1 Illustrated. I don't like having to pay so many taxes while I have a huge debt from higher education. I don't like tofu. I'm not a big fan of alcohol (*hiding his pure vanilla extract...*) I hate incompetent companies.

 AreYouGoodAtAnything?

I'm pretty good at lots of things. I'm a good writer (but not speller) and I'm pretty good with computers (but not cars). I've programmed in Director's Lingo, Basic, C, C++, Pascal, Perl, Java, JavaScript, Flash Actionscript and PHP. I've used Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX systems. (I serviced a Mac (OS X) lab for severals years in college.) I'm also quite familiar with the Palm OS.

Applications that I am familiar with include Macromedia Director, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe GoLive, Final Cut Pro, Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and most office applications. I'm extremely familiar with web design, wireless networking, and online advertising.

I perform basic computer repair on both Mac and PC computers.

I'm good at telling jokes. But the people around me often disagree with me on that.

 EnoughAboutYou-CanYouTellMeAnythingUseful?

Certainly. You should be running Linux. You should be getting plenty of rest and eating lots of vegetables.

If you're thinking about upgrading Windows, you should visit stopupgrading.com.

If you are stuck in the Windows realm, you should check out Trillian (it's a multi-chat.. supports AIM, MSN, ICQ, Y!, and IRC).

You should be using Firefox / Mozilla to browse the web regardless of what OS you are using because it's the best web browser on the planet.

When you get drinks at fast food restaurants, you should get little ice and more drink. You should buy two liters of soda instead of 20 oz or 1 liter because it's typically significantly cheaper per ounce.

You should tell the DMA that you don't want to receive junk mail because you never read it anyway.

You should be a nice person. You should support sites like mine that are free.

You should be educated and make good decisions. (Visit HowStuffWorks, it's very useful.)

Oh, when you get a new computer, consider handing down your old one to someone in your immediate or extended family, or consider giving it to charity. I probably would never have started a web site without that happening. Computers change lives.

Why stop at computers? Recycle everything you can.
